“Being human” — what does that mean?

What remains of the body once it is no longer the center?

What remains is a trace — a residue of a body that is, in part, deeply political.

Interwoven like a neural network, we exist in a constant exchange of information and impulses with one another.

What is this collective “we”? What is the individual?

Here, the body begins to flicker — to fragment, to dissolve, to reorganize itself.

Identity becomes fluid, fractured — a state in transition.

My works operate in space as an interplay between body and meaning — at times as echo, at times as trace.

They reflect an identity no longer confined to pure flesh and describe a form of being beyond the biological body — not as loss, but as possibility and potential.

The technoid abstractions of the paintings offer glimpses and projections of a transhumanist future.

They engage with the desires and fears of a society that repeatedly turns into its own science fiction. We live within a constantly shifting totality, one that is now more than ever compelled to search for new forms of identity.

In the large-scale paintings, science fiction functions as a tool to question and rewrite rigid, socially entrenched structures.

This is also expressed in the radical ruptures within the painterly language itself, which moves from techniques associated with the Old Masters toward absolute abstraction and the dissolution of space and form. In this process, the classical painting is transcribed into the present, engaging and destabilizing established modes of seeing. The heavy, traditional oil painting is broken open — conceptually and visually. This can be read as a form of cyborgization.

In this sense, the painting becomes a time capsule:

emerging from the past (technique, method, painting), unfolding in the present (motif), and projecting itself into the future (cyborgization).

BI0

(b. 1983, Upper Austria) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Ashley Hans Scheirl. Central themes of his work, particularly his painting practice, include normativity within non-normative environments, queerness, social constructs, and corporeality. Representations of masculinity and gender roles—both within and beyond heteronormative frameworks—are critically examined.

His work has been exhibited at, among others, Art Düsseldorf, Ars Electronica, and xHibit Vienna.
